Release the Word

Release the Word is our Bible study and training programme for students and young workers at the Tron. Come to Release the Word if you want to grow strong in your faith and get to grips with God's Word. Our aim is not only to teach the Bible but to equip you to share it with others too. You'll make good friends and we'll give you dinner!

The Release the Word term begins on Thursday 2 October at 7pm and runs for 10 weeks. After dinner, there's a 15 minute talk followed by Bible study groups. This term we're doing a course of instructions on how to read and understand the Bible and studying Philippians in our groups - a good church under pressure. New members are welcome at any time - we hope you can join us! Special welcome for students who're new to the Tron.

Rupert's take on RTW

I’m Rupert, I originally come from Dorset, although I grew up overseas. I’ve been in Glasgow nearly five years now. I’m a final year veterinary student at Glasgow University. For most of my time here I’ve gone to the University Chapel, because I sang in the Chapel Choir. I was brought along to the Tron by a friend in May 2005. Coming from a liberal, high church background, I was fairly ignorant of the evangelical church. The Tron was the first church I had been to that took the Bible seriously. I’ve been coming back since.

What made you come along to RtW in the first place?

I saw a leaflet on the pew one Sunday. I’d started reading the Bible more since coming to the Tron, but wasn’t really studying it as deeply as I should. I really wanted the chance to get more of the help and encouragement that I’d started to get from all the guys I had met at the Tron, who had so much more experience than I did.

What happens on a Thursday night?

First we eat, and chat. It’s great food, and best of all someone else works out what to cook. Then we have a quick talk from Willie with tips and advice about how to go about studying the Bible (usually showing you at the same time where you’ve been going wrong!). For most of the evening you get down to studying that term’s passage in small groups. The groups are made up of people around your own age, all of whom have noticed something that you never picked up when you read the passage yourself. Each group has a great leader, and hardly any of them bite. Finally we usually pray. For people like me who are new to praying openly, it’s a really good place to start.

How have you benefited from RtW?

Most importantly, it taught me not just to read (and forget!) scripture, but to take it apart and work out what the text actually means. It’s amazing how many times I’d got it wrong. It’s easy to do on your own. RtW is also a great way to get to know people and get into church life if you’re new, or you’ve recently become a Christian.
