Building Development Update

May 2006

The Building Development Team is working to serve us, making sure that the development meets the needs of the ministry and the congregation. They are managing a good team of professionals – engineers, architects, and lawyers - who have been providing excellent advice about the technical and legal aspects of the planned development. What the professionals can’t do, because they are not part of the congregation, is express our thoughts and ideas.

The Building Development Team would like us to become more involved. Our experience and ideas are invaluable and the Team want to hear them.

Details

Many details will have to be considered in the development and sometimes the most obvious things are missed. We don’t want to have a beautifully finished building with a vital ingredient left out – coat hooks, perhaps!

This is the time to get it right. And this is where every member of the congregation can help. What do you think needs to be considered? Do you have good suggestions or solutions? You may be the only one who has had that good idea.

Not everything can be included of course and inevitably there won’t be room for all that we would like  - but we will do our best.

Sub-teams

The Building Development Team has set up four sub-teams (see below) to deal with various aspects of the development. The leader of each sub-team will be looking for ideas and suggestions for their particular area of responsibility.

The 4 teams which have been set up are:

Usage

Norrie Miller has taken on the huge responsibility of leading the team who will be looking at how our new facilities will be used – for ordinary and special services; welcoming and stewarding; storage, etc. Many things we just cannot know until we have the new facilities, but Norrie and his team will do their best, with your help, to anticipate problems and consider various solutions beforehand.

Catering

Audrey Hamilton will head the team looking at catering facilities. Although we will have much-improved facilities, we will still have to be careful with every inch of space. Audrey and her team will be considering all the different types of catering we might be able to provide and make sure we have the best-equipped facilities that budget and space will allow.

Electronics

Roland McCallum has agreed to lead the team which will be looking at the electronic systems we will need - from sound to pictures, from phones to lighting. There are many new technologies, and this is our chance to use them in the new development to make sure that everyone can see and hear clearly.

Temporary Accommodation

Ken Robb, with the help of his team, will look at the preparations and arrangements needed for the time we are out of the church building and worshipping in the Church Halls. They will look at the way the Halls will be set up; the duties of the welcome and stewarding teams and perhaps a few minor and minimal cost alterations to the Halls to make our stay there a little more comfortable.
